We love to sit in the middle dinning area because we love looking over to see the chef’s cook but any table is fine to sit at. My family and I love the Sun Tavern.
Posted by BostonRedBoots on 04/10/18: I went with friends to this So. Shore gem. Cod, lamb, and everything else was cooked just to order, and fresh and delicious. A ‘don’t miss it’ menu, served up by friendly staff, in old New England surrounds.
Posted by Marshside01 on 01/20/18: We had dinner at Sun Tavern on a Saturday evening at the bar. Had no reservations but was able to score two seats at the small bar. It’s a tight squeeze but pretty, rustic surrounding, high energy, nice crowd with great service. We really enjoyed the meal, wines were good, appetizers, salad and entrees were all tasty, delivered promptly, and well presented. Service at the crowded bar was excellent. We will definitely return and while we enjoy eating at the bar, will plan ahead with reservations for a table.
Posted by RonL40 on 08/22/17: Beautiful place to hold a congratulatory dinner. Located in an 18th century tavern. Was a busy Saturday and we were a party of seven. Service was average. Food was excellent. My entree, on the plus plus side, were the scallops and they were the best I’ve ever had. Will definitely come back to try more seafood.
Posted by Jillp1776 on 04/12/17: I came here on a Tuesday night for dinner with my boyfriend. Love the location- tucked away off the beaten path in Duxbury, and the building itself is very historic and antique. We LOVED the bar, so cozy with the fire behind us. Bartender was really sweet and on top of her game, the food was outstanding and can’t beat the ambiance. Definitely not cheap, but worth the $$ if you’re looking for somewhere to have a quiet, relaxing, quality dinner. We will return.
Posted by Peter M on 03/13/17: This is an exceptional local restaurant. What makes it so good is that it is almost two restaurants in one. On one side of the restaurant is a pub. On the other side is an elegant country dining room. One menu provides choices between gourmet dining selections ranging from $18 to $27, and comfort pub fare from $12 to $19. The chef is extraordinary and constantly updates the menu with new options. What I like is that there is nothing exotic here. Great food, flavors, and textures blended together to provide choices for foodies and diners with simple tastes. While I like to say this is comfort food, it is so much more than that. Every entree is flavorful, generous and satisfying. This is my go to restaurant when I want no surprises and know I will be happy walking out.
Posted by Gathering_no_mo… on 07/28/16: Whenever my wife and I ask each other, “Where should we go?”, the Sun Tavern is always one of our top two or three choices. It’s my favorite, but a person HAS to have some variety in life! The building itself is full of charisma–a New England house of the 1700s which has been a restaurant for decades, in a number of cherished iterations. It supposedly comes with a ghost, Lysander, whom I’ve never had a chance to meet. Now, the meals: the waitstaff are all friendly, even to strangers, and the bar prepares a variety of drinks–and isn’t light with a “pouring hand.” The menu has lots of basic foods beautifully prepared, but also has delicious and unique specials. We especially love the calamari app, and have never gone wrong with their steaks. The burgers are great, but we tend to eat “better” when we’re at Sun Tavern, and often go there when we’re celebrating an occasion. Heck, we go there when we’re tired, too, and just want a terrific meal.
Posted by Sun_ski_fan on 07/21/16: We’ve been here many times, but this stands out as one of our best visits: A cool, welcoming spot on a hot summer night with fantastic food. Our server was quick to offer a cold beverage and bring corn bread. The grilled watermelon salad that we split spoke summer to us. We chose two of the night’s specials: I the petite filet and my wife the grilled halibut. Both cooked perfectly and presented on a bed of garlic mashed potato and grilled vegetables. We devoured them, which regretfully left no room for desert. We had a fun time with our server during her well-paced and attentive service. We will return again soon.
Posted by Rabbit2011 on 07/19/16: Just walk into the front room and you will be surrounded by the old wood, large fireplace with a musky scent, low ceilings and a strong sense of Americana. They have a varied list of flavorful cocktails, beers and wines. The food is tasty (and not overly large portions). Make a reservation for dinner, as this is a popular restaurant in the area. Ask for Sasha for excellent service!
Posted by BShrews on 07/19/16: Sun Tavern is a consistently a relaxing and friendly restaurant with a good menu. As summer residents, we always look forward to our dinners at the Sun. We’ve eaten outside on the patio, over by the kitchen, in the pub section and at the bar – all have a nice, distinct feel to them. It’s great to meet locals and visitors at the bar, and the staff is always attentive. Food is always spot on — we’ve never had a bad experience or left unsatisfied. We’ve been there with groups and children as well – and it’s decent for both.
Posted by glgallinaro on 06/27/16: The atmosphere is cozy. Great menu and staff. The food is well proportioned and the chef does not mind minor substitutions
Posted by Stephie29 on 05/25/16: Very deceiving from outside step into back in time! The bar area is so quaint. Very low ceiling with wood beams. Crowded but had reservations seated food a drinks and service wonderful!!!
Posted by Jeanniemoon on 05/24/16: This is a great meal for any occasion. We went with my in-laws and everyone was happy with their meal. The service was great and the atmosphere was very charming. Good place for date night. I gave them 4 star but it is really 4 1/2 only because it was slightly cozy atmosphere and between casual and fine dining.
Posted by Diane Z. on 05/02/16: Mixed bag on this one. The crab cake appetizer was very good and big enough for two people. The fish and chips were a disappointment as the fish was overcooked making the outside batter hard and the cole slaw had absolutely no taste. However, the salmon was very good. I was hoping they would have prime rib as that has been one of my favorites but it wasn’t on the menu that night.
Posted by Carri B. on 04/25/16: Great place to have a function! We recently celebrated my wife’s Birthday at the Sun Tavern. 30 People for dinner. Had a Cocktail Hour before we sat down for dinner. Weather cooperated so we were able to do that out side on the back patio. Everything was perfect. The servers were great. We had passed appetizers during the Cocktail hour and a wonderful sit down dinner. Larry helped me with the appetizers and the meals to choose from ahead of time. And I actually surprised my wife… Would definitely recommend this place for a large group.
Posted by Marla on 03/16/16: Sun Tavern is an antique house converted to a restaurant. The ceilings are low and the bar area has a very large fireplace that burns all winter. The food is great. I’ve never had a bad meal there. Dinner time is busy so reservations are a good idea. It’s one of my favorite restaurants in town. It’s not far from Route 3 located in a residential area.
Posted by Minty S on 03/10/16: I really enjoy the Sun Tavern. It has a warm and cozy atmosphere, delightful staff, and delicious food! From the moment you enter, the staff is right there to greet you and make you feel welcome. If you prefer one type of seating over another, no problem! The food is excellent. We’ve visited many times and I usually try something different each time – I’ve never been disappointed. I can’t wait to return and some friends are visiting soon, we will take them to the Tavern for the great food and overall experience.
Posted by Ed T. on 02/25/16: We go to Sun Tavern on a somewhat regular basis… Never has disappointed us. A perfect night out every time. The menu is great – my favorite Rib-Eye anywhere. Reasonably priced as well. I got the Rib – Eye Diane last week and it was cooked perfectly. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. Grab a drink before dinner at the bar.
Posted by Duxbay on 01/16/16: I had dinner there twice during the past couple of months and have not been disappointed in any way. I believe that the menu has choices that will satisfy all. I have had their salad, appetizers and main courses. The wait staff are attentive and courteous. There are many small “rooms ” with the feel/ atmosphere of the original antique house.

Posted by 66loum on 10/27/15: The Sun Tavern has good food for a reasonable price. They have a Braised Lamb dish that falls off the bone… The atmosphere is warm and inviting especially the little bar area…I usually get a Lamb or Beef dish and my wife gets Seafood, I’ve never had a bad meal there…

The front end and the back end of the house was awesome!!! Also, thank you Laura and Larry for making our day very special for us! Mr. & Mrs. David Downey

Posted by Donald V. on 10/24/15: Just finished a wonderful meal & enjoyed it all. The wine was an excellent suggestion for our meal. Hubby had the salmon which was perfectly cooked. I had the seafood scampi which wasn’t overpowered by the amount of garlic or linguine. Topped it off with an unusual & enjoyable blueberry cheesecake. Would definitely go back!
Posted by Karen H. on 10/10/15: Had dinner here with friends we were visiting in Duxbury. When we arrived the parking lot was full, the restaurant and bar were packed. By the time we left we were the last car in the parking lot and it didn’t seem like we had been there THAT long. It is very much a quintessential New England version of an English pub, but with much better food.
Posted by Hart4596 on 10/8/15: Great haddock, great service, but you had best have a reservation on a Friday evening. I did not have a reservation, but they were able to accommodate me with a table in the dining room.
Posted by BK3104 on 9/28/15: We haven’t been to the Sun for a number of years, with our last visit being in the middle of a cold winter stretch. We visited this time on a beautiful sunny Saturday evening and are very glad we went back. The number of quality dining choices on the South Shore has expanded quite a bit and the competition is more intense. The Sun Tavern has stayed true to its roots, while still expanding on a great menu. Everything we had for dinner, appetizers and dessert was perfect, with the Swordfish special the best I’ve had anywhere. Service was perfect, checking with us just the right amount of times, but never to the point where we were being interrupted. Our server seemed to know just when to stop by, a trait that points to outstanding training. We will definitely be back.
Posted by Ronnie M. on 9/12/15: We sat at the bar had the buffalo chicken starter, my wife had the chicken dinner, I had the meatloaf and finished with the Baileys creme brulee. Outstanding! So delicious.

Posted by Clifford W. on 8/23/15: I haven’t stopped by since 2008 and as I remembered, this establishment is quite impressive. The setting is unique because of its age and charm, the atmosphere for a Saturday extremely festive and pleasant, our wait person was polite, professional and efficient and the faire and drink as expected, exquisitely top shelf. My companion and I have critiqued many South Shore fine dining locations this summer and remarkably the Sun Tavern is the closest to our homes and perhaps the finest place so far. I could see becoming a regular a nice way to be…

Posted by Nicole T. on 8/16/15: Visited the Sun Tavern for the first time and the experience was wonderful. The restaurant was a former residential dwelling built in the 1700’s, which I understand was turned into a restaurant in the 1930’s. It is a very quaint place with a warm, colonial, english pub-like feel: warm and cozy, low ceilings, wide pine floors, smaller dining areas/rooms throughout the 1st floor. History even claims the ghost of Lysander Walker, a former owner from whom was titled “Last Duxbury Hermit.” Anyways, on to the food: The specialty Martina’s were wonderful. Our table sampled 3 different kinds (Shimmering, Espresso & Harvest Apple) The glasses were filled to the top and were very tasty. Not cheap, but delicious. Appetizers were oysters (delicious), clam chowder (a little bland, but very good), and the wedge salad (very good). Dinner was NY Sirloin au poivre which was cooked to order and tasty, Pistachio crusted salmon, and the homemade meatloaf – all delicious! Molly, our waitress was attentive without being overbearing and did an excellent job. We were very pleased with The Sun Tavern all the way around, and would visit again anytime!
Posted by Caiti M. on 8/4/15: Delicious food along with an awesome bar, this is my husband and my favorite place to relax after a long day of work.
Posted by Summerlovin333 on 7/26/15: We walked in on a Saturday night at 7, no reservation. It was a 45 minute wait so the place is busy but not overly so. We were seated right in front of the open kitchen which was fun. We had oysters on the half shell, salmon burger and steak tips. The the food was good, tasty and cooked well. Bread basket was fresh delicious crusty bread. Overall, definitely a new go to place that is close to home and affordable. There are plenty of options under $20. Try it!

Posted by JLMVL on 7/24/15: Good food. A must when visiting New England – restaurant in a charming cape cod. Great atmosphere. Takes you back into history.
Posted by Rozydozy on 7/17/15: The setting at Sun Tavern certainly reminds you of the 18th century. Restaurant is located in a historical house with furniture consisting of many period pieces. Grounds are meticulously manicured. Appetizer was a grilled watermelon and goat cheese salad, drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Crispy onion strips topped the huge molded tower. Taste was very refreshing. My wife had ordered raviolis stuffed with artichoke hearts and sun dried tomatoes in a parmesan cream sauce. I ordered a 16 oz. double pork chop topped with a rhubarb compote. Goat cheese and chive mashed potatoes and a medley of summer veggies completed the presentation. Both meals were delicious. Servings were more than ample. Server was extremely pleasant and attentive. Prices were very fair and reasonable. Would definitely return in the near future.
Posted by Susan p. on 7/1/15: First and foremost, make reservations!! When you walk into the tavern, you walk back into history. The front of the building was built in 1744 and has that old world charm. The waitress attended to us immediately. I had the Pistachio encrusted salmon with warm, fingerling potato salad and my husband had the lobster, shrimp, and scallop, scampi served over homemade pasta. We did manage to fit in dessert: Hot Chocolate Cake and Creme Brulee. Excellent food, superb service and cozy surroundings all in one!
Posted by Laurie B. on 6/30/15: Went here with a group of friends and I thoroughly enjoyed my salad and mussels as an appetizer/dinner. They were in a delicious broth and certainly numerous. While I don’t recall exactly which salad I ordered , as it was over a week ago, I do know that I thought it was well presented and the dressing was very tasty. Three others had salads with scallops and were all quite complimentary. Only one person said she wouldn’t order the same thing again and she had a fish dish that was nothing special. The only negative to my order was that one of the mussels was rather gritty which indicated it was not washed thoroughly. Our waitress was very accommodating and even brought us a plate of homemade biscotti with our coffees/tea though we did not order dessert. They were excellent.
Posted by Eli on 6/30/15: Had dinner on a Sunday at Sun Tavern in Duxbury. Ate early…4:30, not busy at that time. Was seated promptly (no reservation). My son, husband and I enjoyed appetizers, entrees and desserts. Apps included crispy calamari–delicious, clam chowder–not really thick but very tasty. Entrees were pan-seared scallops–tender and tasteful, sirloin steak–tender, cooked a bit under meduim but enjoyable, steak tips–ordered medium rare and only one arrived as ordered. Waitress offered to redo the order but I’m very skeptical about sending food back. Needless to say, we ate them and they were very tasty, although not cooked to order. Dessert was cinnamon creme brulee and key lime pie…delicious. Our waitress, Amanda, was attentive and never hurried our meal (it was very busy about mid-way through). I’m just fussy about my meat…but wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Atmosphere was quaint and enjoyable. Food definitely well above average. Price was in line for 3 people.

Posted by Bill Z. on 6/24/15: This was a great evening. My friend took me to the Sun Tavern to celebrate Father’s Day and my birthday. The staff was excellent as we were not rushed. We had a chance to have a glass of wine without being pressured to order. We started with an appetizer which was delicious. Then we ordered dinner, I had the baked haddock and my friend had the meatloaf. Both were cooked to perfection. Then they brought dessert with the singing happy birthday, We shared the dessert mmmm mmmm good. It was a perfect evening.

The atmosphere, the food, the bread, the drinks (Sun Tavern rum-tinis–yum!), and our waitress Sasha (who was awesome and helped make it all fun–what a great personality!)…Steak tips, sirloin, and the meatloaf plus the sides–all fantastic! And the desserts (all home made) were to die for! We are going back, bringing our grown children, so that they can see that fine local cuisine isn’t just located in Boston…Phantom Gourmet was absolutely right.

Posted by Debra V on 5/10/15: Very quaint place to eat. Everyone should experience it; even if it’s just a cocktail in the pub. We went on Mother’s day so you can imagine how packed it was. We were seated immediately but we had to eat in the pub due to holiday reservations we made late. The tables are a bit cramped but the food is always consistently good and served hot. Our waitress was as attentive as she could be given the number of mother’s day guests. The prices are on the high side but I think it’s worth it.
Posted by Nancy S. on 5/5/15: It is one of our favorite restaurants and go there often. We love when they have a Living Social Coupon as well. The waitress was great and the food was amazing.
Posted by KVM101 on 5/2/15: We’ve been coming here for years & we enjoy it every time. The Pub is always lively on weekends. This old New England Cape & its decor adds to the comfort of this favorite. They also have a separate dining room that’s great for functions. The food and presentation both are creative. Delicious and Savory is standard and expected. In the winter relaxing in front of the fireplace with a drink is very enjoyable. Service was very good & friendly, although bit slow, most likely to the timing of the food preparation, but that made for a more relaxing evening. On a cool/cold night, it is advisable to avoid the front room as the front door provides a noticeable draft. All in all, they do a great job here & we’ll be back!
Posted by lntsales on 5/1/15: from start to finish, lovely experience. Hostess very pleasant, wait staff Kerry was wonderful and attentive, food plentiful and delicious, desserts out of this world, Lemon Marscapone Cake and Mug of Chocolate cake. the extra calories were worth it. To be fair the seating was tight and the floor was on a slope but to me it added to the fun. The crispy goat cheese appetizer was excellent. I am a vegetarian and there was no vegetarian section but the cook was more than happy to make me a custom meal that was just awesome! My wife had an incredible steak. We had some nice drinks with our meal and finished dinner off with a creme brulee which was also excellent. All staff we spoke to were very nice and helpful. 5-stars.

Posted by Brendad13 on 3/18/15: I just love sitting at the bar by the cozy fire place on a winter night. The food is spectacular and I have never had a bad meal there. I love that they have a reward program but dislike that if you don’t have the card with you they can’t look it up or give you the points. Their steaks are awesome and love the fried goat cheese appetizer. In my opinion best food in Duxbury and pretty much the whole south shore.
Posted by Suzannah2013 on 3/18/15: Dined there on March 15,2015. I had their Spring Salad, can’t put my finger on why I love this salad so much…the perfect mix of Lettuce’s and dressing in an elegant package. The salad is not so big that it ruins your appetite. My main course was a Special for the evening, Sirloin ordered charred on the outside medium on the inside (it was done perfectly) served with cheddar mashed and a mix of root vegetables that were also seasoned perfectly. For Dessert I had a Heavenly piece of Cheese cake with Blueberry Sauce that really topped off the meal. This Restaurant is so charming and warm, the Servers are friendly and attentive…..It’s is one of my all time favorite places to Dine.

Posted by Mark V. on 3/7/15: The Sun Tavern in Duxbury, Ma. is a place where you can appeal to your casual or upscale side depending on your mood or occasion. Want to low key it …then eat in the bar side within the glow of the warm, inviting fireplace. If you are seeking a little more elegance, then opt for the dining room, which may also share a glimpse of the open kitchen. Either way you are sure to have an enjoyable evening as the food here has yet to disappoint. it sure beats traveling into Boston and trying to find a parking spot. We sometimes forget to look in our own backyard for a great night out with service to match.

Posted by Stefanie Y. on 1/25/15: We went to Sun Tavern the other night to celebrate our anniversary. I had been there once in the summer with friends (patio was nice), but this was my husbands first time. We started with the calamari- it was delicious, with a sweet chili sauce that made it different than your typically calamari. For entrees hubby ordered the steak tips- they were fantastic, very tender, cooked to order, and he loved the horseradish mashed potatoes. I had the lobster ravioli…. By far the best I’ve had. The portion was also perfect and when you cut into a ravioli you can see the big chunks of lobster. I want to go back and have it again! For dessert my husband had coffee ice cream which was yummy and I had the last of our bottle of Cabernet 🙂 our waitress was also wonderful (I wish I could remember her name!). She was very friendly and answered any questions we had. I’ve recommended this restaurant to everyone!

From the bruschetta to the meals, the portions were generous and everything looked and tasted delicious! We will definitely be going there again soon.
Posted by soljaz65 on 1/18/15: “New Years Eve delicious at Sun Tavern” My wife and I are frequent diners at Sun Tavern. That said, New Years Eve can be risky for quality of food and service. Because the owner, Larry, is a constant presence, and he was there for New Years Eve, the experience was just great. Prearranged table was ready within minutes of the reservation. There was abundant wait staff who, though harried, tried hard to maintain personal contact. Larry was overseeing everything, as usual, which created the excellent standard of a great dining evening. We were not rushed, food was prepared perfectly, and the atmosphere at the restaurant was festive without being overwhelming. Once again, Sun Tavern delivered.Posted by J. McFadden on 1/16/15: It’s a lovely cozy spot with great food and very friendly staff. I’d definitely go again.
Posted by RoseMarie C. on 1/15/15: Food is always delicious! Restaurant very homey, intimate.

Posted by J Sailor on 12/18/14: Larry Friedman and his crew do a great job at the Sun Tavern in Duxbury, Massachusetts, USA. We were there in December 2014 as a party of 6. Ashley B took great care of us, attentive but not intrusive. Very good breads arrived promptly. Seafood appetizers and entrees of meat or seafood were uniformly tasty and meats were delivered as ordered in terms of how much they were cooked. A TV plays in the bar area but the several dining rooms were hushed and conversation was easy.
Posted by BAA1949 on 12/4/14: Great food, pleasant interior, in fact, quite charming, attentive service AND you can actually have a conversation here. No loud piped in music. I had the potato and leek soup and scallops as my entree. The scallops were superb. Sitting on a bed of cauliflower mash that was scrumptious. Others at my table had scallops, rack of lamb, Caesar salad and onion soup and they all raved about their choices. The creme brûlée was delicious as well for dessert. Love this place. Highly recommend!
Posted by IPA1968 on 12/2/14: The appetizers are usually VERY good here. The have a nice beer selection and the atmosphere is great. The staff is very good and the people in the bar are generally pretty friendly. They keep the fireplace going all winter.
Posted by Grandmother L. on 11/8/14: Sun Tavern is our go to place when we want to celebrate. Love the food, service and ambiance.
Posted by Gideon M on 10/17/14: Where to start, from the minute we walked in, it was Outstanding. A pleasant hostess, a fantastic server, the bartender even waved hello. We sat in the open kitchen room, how interesting to actually watch the food be cooked. The man who was expediting the line was charming. He came over to ask how everything was, it was the owner. How nice to see someone so involved with his business. I think he knows what he is doing. It was a packed house, and we did not wait for anything. We were just a party of 2, had a split Caesar Salad with Scallops, and the Sweet Chili Wings, they were both so tasty. The Scallops were cooked perfectly. I had the barrel cut filet, got tell you, NICE. My friend had the Signature Burger, WOW, who knew pork belly was so wonderful, I bet the Chef dose for sure. For dessert we had a Pumpkin Creme Brulee and Bread Pudding, great presentation on both. I really loved it. Been in town for a while, and I’m happy to say I’ll be back. Again, OUTSTANDING ALL AROUND!!!!
Posted by Wxguy on 10/13/14: We had never gone to the Sun Tavern let alone heard of it before our friend suggested that we stop there recently. The restaurant did not look typical as it resembles the 18th centrury house that it truely is. Upon entering, the old, exposed beams, white plaster, low ceilings and clearly defined rooms give the restaurant authentic charm. Then for the food, which was wonderful. We shared Calimari that had a mildly spicy sauce and was addidtive. For an entree, the Salmon was cooked perfectly and the glaze set it apart. My wife got twin quails which she loved. In all, the Sun Tavern has now gone onto our “must go to” list.
Posted by Suzanna on 10/08/14: My husband and I dine at The Sun when ever we can. We always have a fantastic dining experience there, a rare thing. To start I had the Spring Mix salad ( I always do), it is just the perfect mix of greens and set so artfully on the plate. My husband had the Crispy Calamari and could not stop talking about how flavorful it was. My main course was the barrel cut filet with a blue cheese potato cake that was out of this world. They always manage to cook any steak I order perfectly .My husband had a New York Sirloin with a Brandy peppercorn sauce. The steaks there are so tender, you really can cut it with a fork! For a finale we both had a New York cheese cake that is made at the Restaurant and I have to say you can NOT get any better. What a rare place this is, the service, the surroundings and the food, WOW.
Posted by Teresa S. on 10/07/14: As a new resident of Duxbury, this was THE restaurant that people kept recommending as the best place to try in town and it certainly did not disappoint! We had reservations for four on a busy Friday night and we were blown away by the food! My husband and I ordered from the specials that night (braised pork shank and yellow fin tuna) and our dining companions had the ribeye and the salmon. Everything was amazing and cooked to perfection! I love the open concept of the kitchen and watching as your dishes are expertly prepared in front of you. The presentation on the plate would rival any fine dining establishment in Boston without a doubt. The setting is so quaint and welcoming and rumor has it there is even a ghost on premise! I am absolutely delighted that a restaurant of this caliber is so close to my new home. We will be back for sure as this is a gem to have in town.
Posted by R. Beech on 8/29/14: Sometimes I am a bit reticent to write a review about a local gem but I have to give this place its credit. This is in a quaint old building rumored to be haunted (by either some old gentleman that committed suicide or two girls who died of scarlet fever – depending on who you believe. The building was built sometime around 1741 and the interior is cozy. You have an open view into the kitchen and I love that. Outdoor dining (although not a long season in NE) is great as well with heaters and bug spray (depending on the conditions you encounter). I started with some great Calamari with a sweet chili flavoring. Not too much breading – superb. I followed that with Panko Parmesan Crusted Haddock which was cooked to perfection and delightful. No deserts but this review would not be complete without me telling you about the amazing service as well. The staff are knowledgable, attentive, nice and it appeared that no request was beyond their ability.
I cannot wait to go back again!
Posted by Mary E. on 8/27/14: My husband took me here for my birthday – and we both loved it. As it was a celebration, we had the works – appetizers, main course, desserts, bottle of wine. He had oysters, salmon, cheesecake. i had clam cake, scallops, peach crepes. The waiter was very attentive. They have re-done the restaurant area – you can now see the chefs finishing off the dishes. We will be back soon!
Posted by Tina G. on 8/27/14: My husband and I had dinner there recently with another couple. This restaurant is located in Duxbury. You have to know it’s there or you would drive right by. The building is an antique colonial and the decorating is just beautiful; very warm and inviting. Especially the bar.
All four of us totally enjoyed our dinner but the drinks were a little on the light side. Still very good. We can’t wait to go back.
Posted by anonymous on 8/17/14: We’ve eaten here three times now. It’s not as relaxing as some places (just for being crowded), but the burgers are very good and the other food is well prepared. The bar is good, but not great if you are looking for high-end liquors and cordials, and local products are nearly absent. I’d go more often if they had more locavore beers and spirits. The service is good and the prices are fair. Importantly, we have not found much better in the area.
Posted by Denise H. on 8/12/14: The atmosphere was excellent. The food was even better. Our wait staff were very professional very accommodating. If you’re in the Duxbury area, this is a must. You won’t be disappointed.
Posted by Guest G. on 8/11/14: Our waitress, Sasha, was incredible! She was personable, funny, well informed, and helpful on wine and menu choices. She is a gem! We will be back just for her. (the food was delicious too.)
Posted by Ralph S. on 8/5/14: Steak tips, salmon burger and the haddock all very good. Family has been coming here since it was Mary Hacketts. Still a beautiful antique New England treasure worth a visit.
Posted by Amanda R. on 8/1/14: This place is excellent! We’ve been several times and each time we are wowed! I love the menu for each season and the drinks are fantastic! I love how quaint this place is. It is such a wonderful night out, Especially in the fall and winter! I even rave about the bread here to people!
Posted by Alan G. on 07/28/14: We stumbled upon this restaurant after a long day of travel on our way to the Cape. Staff was so very friendly and helpful. The food and ambience were great. Particularly liked the Oysters and prime rib. Too bad we can’t visit more often. Alan G.

Posted by Gene on 6/11/14: Saturday night dinner for two couples was as good as it gets.
One couple split a mussels appetizer and my wife and I split a salad, which the kitchen did for us and delivered in a great presentation with each portion encircled by a super thin slice of cucumber. My wife had an outstanding scallop dish, her friend had a blackened salmon, while her husband had a sea food combo and I had a lamb “sirloin. Each dish was uniquely presented over a variety of beautifully finished (and tasty) vegetables. The sauces were outstanding. The meals served hot. The service was excellent – our water glasses never got below half empty. This has to be one of the best restaurants south of Boston.
Posted by Mark P. on 5/27/14: Where to start: Environment was great. Each room had its own theme. We were in the kitchen which was great. Drink selection was awesome and did not let down. Had a few beers you wouldn’t expect to see in a restaurant. Appetizers, the detail paid to the appearance and taste was second to none. Main Course was more than we expected, not only was it delicious it was a huge serving as well. Finally the waitstaff, they were phenomenal. Timing was perfect for everything along with watching from a distance so they wouldn’t be intrusive. All around this place was great and would recommend it to anyone!
Posted on by davismaps on 5/20/14: Excellent dinner and great service. My steak was done to perfection with a great sauce. My wife said her scallop dish was one of the best she has ever had (and she can be really picky). We will be back soon.

Posted by Sarah e. on 4/19/14: This is a prerevolutionary restaurant and it shows with the wood beams and the floor. Not the food though. We made reservations for our large party and were seated immediately upon arrival, even without the whole party present. We split two bottles of Malbec which was tasty. We ordered calamari and bruschetta for appetizers. They were tasty. My meal was the lobster ravioli. The asparagus and sundried tomato topping was delicious! The raviolis were double the size I am used to eating. They were yummy too. I could see chunks of lobster inside when I cut them in half. (They were that large.) I asked the waitress if they did anything special for birthdays, she brought out brownie ala mode with a lit candle. It was a fun family evening enjoyed by all. Since it is on the dressy/pricey side, I would probably only return for special occasions.
Posted by Paula H. on 4/15/14: We enjoy sitting in the tavern area and our waitress is always friendly and suggests items to order from the menu. Specials are always very good as are the fish dishes. Nice country atmosphere with an upscale feeling. Prices are reasonable for food and drinks.

They always have interesting specials and their in house made cheese cake is the best I have ever had.. I love this place and can’t wait for the warm weather so we can sit on the terrace. We always call for a reservation because they fill up fast especially on the weekends.

Posted by D. Albertson on 2/9/14: Everything was fabulous! Our meal began with the coconut shrimp appetizer, 4 huge, perfectly presented shrimp, hot, crispy, divine. My 2nd choice of duck, was delicious, and most satisfying. My husband ordered veal osso bucco, over which he raved. Dessert options were plentiful, we chose to share my favorite, (it was after all MY birthday), flourless chocolate torte with raspberry Ganache, and I was treated to a great new tea by Riuals, which I completely enjoyed. Our server, Steven, was wonderful, with suggestions, tips and information, and timing/presentation was flawless. It was a lovely evening, a great meal start to finish, and a very, happy birthday! KUDOS to Sun Tavern!!
